We Love

Only in Japan

We love this  Surprise Japan Knitting Group attacks: since august this year a group of artists covers the unexpected with colourful knitwear in Tokyo. Benches, signposts and other public monuments. One of the founders is 203GOW, working under alias only.

The shoppers in Ebisu Park who stopped to look at the benches, which were covered in knitted stripes and other colorful wools, often sat on them for a long time. “Knitted things warm up cold and damaged hearts. It has an appeal to the body, the heart and the mind,” 203gow says. “Guerrilla knitted objects can make people a bit more aware of things.”

Food For Thought

Never worry about the size of your X-mas tree.
In the eyes of children they are all 30 feet tall.

We Love

Let it snow, let it snow…

Oops. Winter. It started in november and sneaked into december. For now, we think it´s  fun but we´re approaching  our snowtax. Absolutely appropriate for the Season Holidays – Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells. No argument here.
We are already in mental preparation for the new SS2011 fashion season to come. Skirts, bare legs and slingbacks. Yes!

Designer News

Tom Ford & Lara Stone

Great feature in W Magazine of new – and first! – Tom Ford female collection. Each dress especially designed for one of his muses.
The left red satin silk dress and red shoes is designed for Rachel Feinstein. “Every time I see Rachel, I am dazzled by her smile, and I think about color. Rachel is all about color.”

The black kimono catsuit smoking, designed for Lou Doillon. “Lou is young and has an amazing body,” says Ford. “She was the perfect person to wear a catsuit—le smoking.”

The embroided blue silk fringes dress was designed for Karen Elson.  “Karen is such an exotic beauty, I always love dressing her in a color that plays off her skin tone and hair color,” says Ford. “The cobalt blue of the dress seemed exactly right.”

The sequined silk dress with netting, designed for Daphne Guinness. “Daphne is about structure, So the most important thing is that her dress is corseted and shows off her incredible figure,” says Ford. “She is also not a shrinking violet and can pull off fashion looks that many would be afraid of. I wanted her to have one of the most dramatic looks in the show.”
And yes, all these superb dresses are shown by Dutch Model Lara Stone and spectaculair pics taken by the Famous Dutch Artists Couple Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. No concessions on going Dutch this time.

Form follows function – that has been misunderstood.
Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.

We Love

Ai, Chocolate

Yes! We found another great fine chocolate shop. In centre of Amsterdam VanderDonk recently open his doors. And boy, do we like this. Their handmade chocolate (filled with all kinds of delicacies) are of a very modest size. This allows us to take another one without the guilty feeling. And another one…
Our favourite? Dark chocolate filled with honey & anise.

Apart from home made chocolates there is a large selection of the best internationals chocolate brands. We spotted Blanxart (Spain), Venchi (Italy) and Dean & Deluca (New York) and many more.

Not so close to Amsterdam? Order online. Easy.

Karl Lagerfeld photographed this years renowned Pirelli calender.
All revolves around Greek mythology. Heroes & Goddesess.  The official presentation was in Hotel Ritz in Moscow. We think it’s amazing how Karl Lagerfeld keeps coming up with new statements and ideas. Creativity definitely is his middle name.
We are impressed by the photo’s of actress Julianne Moore.
