Ghost in the Machine

Those of you over 25 will remember: music cassette tapes. Huh? T a p e s. You know, the ones you stashed in your Sony Walkman. Often with your personal favourites, recorded from the radio. Those were the days! Have some hanging around the house, but no machinery to play them? There’s an alternative.
Erika Iris Simmons, a former facepainter from Florida, is fascinated by perception, cognition and optical illusions. How do we perceive shadows? While still working as a coctail waitress in the Jimmy H. themed VIP lounge of Hardrock Hotel, she noticed a pile of cassette tapes and wondered, ‘what ghost could be hiding in here?’. She pulled out the ribbon and the curled up tape reminded her of good old Jimmy’s hair. Her very first ghost was born!
Hermès recognised her creativity and look at those tape salsa dancers in the window display. [KB]
