Erwin Olaf & Bottega Veneta

Proud to be Dutch? Uh… not always but when it comes to Art we definitely say yes. We’re so delighted that it is our favourite Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf, who shot the FW12 campaign for Bottega Veneta in his Amsterdam studio. Bottega Veneta! This ubersophisticated Italian luxury brand is so on our Big Five list. And Erwin’s photo from his Grief collection is so on our office wall…
This campaign will be published in the August issues of Vogue, Vanity Fair, W Magazine and more. We can’t wait. [KB]

What’s in a Louis Vuitton dot?

Japanese ‘dot’ artist Yayoi Kusama is in the heart of Louis Vuitton’s attention. Too bad we missed her last exhibition in The Tate Modern in London. Yayoi Kusama’s (82! talking about advanced style) pioneering work spans over six decades and this exhibition highlighted the artists’ moments of most intense innovation. Ok, enough about what we did not see.
Luckely there is more, for the first time Louis Vuitton and  Kusama collaborated which resulted in the smashing  Infinitely Kusama Collection.
Initiated by one of her greatest admirers, Marc Jacobs. We can’t wait to see the collection of dotted shoes, ready-to-wear and bags. Don’t miss out on the seven pop-up stores around the world. From Singapore till New York. Pick your dotted destination. [KB]

People, We Love

Advanced Style, Gracefully old

Dress your age! We all know this expression but we rather prefer the opposite. We consider these stylish ladies above ’70 our role models. Arie Seth Cohen was already known for his blog Advanced Style, inspired by his own grandmother’s unique personal style.
And now there’s the book to compliment his blog, with his selection of the finest beautiful ladies. Style is something that growns on you as one matures and is always the reflection of ones inner state of mind. The Advanced Style book will showcase, in luscious full-color, the best of the blog, but will also act as a true guidebook with all-new material featuring wardrobes, interviews, stories, and advice from a cadre of his most chic subjects. We’re no longer afraid of aging. [KB]

Dior loves Daphne

We never get enough of the mini movies the Fashions Houses feed us. They tickle your fantasy, they sooth your soul and most important, they make you want to belong.
This time its Christian Dior giving us 2:54 minutes of daydreaming, in honour of their fragrance Dior Addict. The film, shot by photographer Tim Walker and director Jonas Åkerlund, was inspired by Brigitte Bardot’s iconic role in Et Dieu Crea la Femme (by Roger Vadim). It features Dutch model Daphne Groeneveld, aka Miss Mouth, to dance, skip and folly around like miss Bardot once did.
And what the films lacks in choreography, (good heavens, that tacky musical-esk dancing!) and in curves (no BB there), it makes up in cinematic longing: we love the sounds of the beach , the colors of the St. Tropez harbor, the bougainvilles in the streets and the boys in the bar. And so they did it again: it’s 2:54 minutes of pure wishiwasthere emotion. Gotta love that on your rainy Dutch summer day. [EH]

bye, bye, Yves?

Rumours confirm (yep, contradiction in terminus) that new appointed Creative Director Hedi Slimane plans for a name change for this luxury brand. Leaving Yves behind and move on with Saint Laurent Paris. Call us old fashioned, but one should never change a name that strong. Isn’t that an omen for bad luck? Like changing the name of your boat (so not done). His initials are amongst the strongest logo’s within the world of luxury. Don’t touch. [KB]

Beauty

Forever Young

Japanese based skincare company Clé de Peau Beauté is celebrating its 30th anniversary this September, and to commemorate this milestone, they plan on selling three limited edition jars of their best selling product La Crème, which will cost $13.000 each… Yep, let that sink in for a minute.

Handcrafted and made up of 30 layers of crystals and three platinum rungs, the 50 gram jars cost nearly as much as a face lift. The line has powerful anti-ageing properties, the company said, and can both lift and tighten skin on the face. That may not look like affordable luxury at a time when many Japanese are struggling financially, but spokesman Shoutaro Nagai says sales for its high-priced beauty lines have remained relatively flat, while middle-of the line products have declined.
“When La Crème was first introduced, only women with well-paying jobs would buy them,” Nagai said. “These days, women in their 20′s and 30′s buy them. Even if they can’t afford the whole line, they want the cream.” Wow. The sun sure does rise in the east. Forever broke  young. [EH]
