It’s D.D. bag day!

5 Tod's D.D. Bag Lancering

The evolution of a iconic bag, that’s something worth celebrating right? And so we did with cocktails Thursday night, in the Tod’s boutique on the P.C. Hooftstraat in Amsterdam.
Even though it was raining outside, the store felt cozy and summery. The renewed D.D. Bag collection is familiar yet fresh, with its characteristic rolled handles and exposed edges. Their latest model, the green python version is such an eye catcher. On my wishlist √.
But it was not only about the D.D. Bags that night. My oh my, the store was filled with amazing summer must haves. Adorable high heel sandals (Karin confirms that they’re very comfortable to wear since she is a Tod’s heels addict), stylish wedges and Gommino moccasin loafers in many different bright colors. May, can we please get some sun now? [AJ]

Happy skin, happy fashion

5 Marc jacobs cara delevingne protect the skin you're in t-shirt

Naomi Campbell did it, Chloe Sevigny did it, and now Cara Delevigne is the latest celebrity to lend her naked body to Marc Jacobs for his Protect the skin you’re In clothing campaign.
Marc Jacobs’ initiative has been raising money for skin cancer research since 2006, and is doing so with T-shirts who have images of a supermodels printed on them. And although shopping as activism seems a little silly – wanting to wear a designer t-shirt with a naked supermodel on the front is probably driven by motives less pure than wanting to help fund a cancer research institute – but you can’t really be blasé about it: all proceeds (normally it is just some) from the sale of the 35 dollar tees are donated to the NYU Cancer Institute.
And nature will be thankful too: the shirts are manufactured with 100% green cotton. Happy animals, happy skin, happy fashion addicts: what more could you possibly want? [EH]

Lucky Long Legs

5 Frame Denim Karlie Kloss

We kind of hesitated before posting this news item, since it is only meant for some of us… And for some of us we mean the long legged lucky ones.
We are talking about the latest collaboration in the fashion scene, a hook up between jeans label Frame Denim and supermodel Karlie Kloss, called Forever Karlie.
What it is? A line of jeans for “freakishly tall” girls like Karlie herself that will include two extralong jean styles. One flared and one skinny silhouette, in light and dark washes, each with 40-inch inseams. To compare: the average inseam reaches 30 to 32 inches. U-huh. Not for me that is, but I bet girls like Karlie will heave a sigh of relieve. “Finding pants that fit is something I struggled with my whole life,” Kloss said. “There is nothing worse than a pair of jeans that leaves you feeling exposed when you bend down.”
True tale, and thank god for those lucky gals the solution is near, as the collection will debut at Barneys New York and Net a Porter in the first week of June. [EH]

Terry takes over

5 Terry Richardson Doutzen Kroes Valentino H&M

Terry Richardson – you either love him or you hate him. In case of the first option you’ll be happy to find out that the controversial American photographer is no longer strictly behind the camera, but seems to feel as at ease in front of it.
In Valentino’s Fall 2013 accessories campaign, which will debut in fashion magazines around the world starting today, Richardson’s hands and tattooed forearms are seen holding the brand’s Rockstud handbag and shoe – both in signature Valentino red. Maria Grazia Chiuri, the brand’s creative director, told Womens Wear Daily that the images are supposed to evoke “the sensual yet elegant nature of our accessories, described as objects of desire”.
Speaking of objects of desire: Terry Richardson is also the lucky bastard to shoot our very own Doutzen Kroes for fashion retailer H&M’s summer 2013 campaign. The Dutch topmodel posed for him in Mexico for the advertisements showcasing lightweight styles of the season. Busy days for Terry indeed, so for all of you out there raising eyebrows: you better start loving him for your own wellbeing – there is no escape. [EH]

Target targets Phillip Lim 3.0

Target Phillip Lim 3.1 september 2013

It was 2011 when we got all worked up about Target’s collaboration with Missoni, and now you can start counting the days again, because the American warehouse has announced who their new best friend is: designer Phillip Lim.
Target is the pioneer of the high-low apparel collections that periodically cause a frenzy in the fashion world, a strategy that led some people to pronounce their name as if it were a French company: ‘Tar-zhay”.
With this new clothier on their side, a man who has dressed Kate Hudson and Keira Knightley and is known for his ladylike and chic yet affordable styles, they will definitely keep up their reputation. The collection will consist of 100 pieces and will range in prices from 19,99 to 299,99 dollars.
The Lims will hit stores in September and here’s a sneak preview:

Flying Fashion

5 Vivienne Westwood Virgin Atlantic uniforms Richard Branson copy
Looking fashionable while being up in the air – it’s a challenge for us travellers, but it’s even more challenging for flight attendants.
How on earth do you stay stylish while serving drinks, calming nerves and storing luggage hours and hours on end? Well, with a little help from the best of course, and that is why Richard Branson hired Vivienne Westwood to redesign the uniforms of Virgin Atlantic.
According to the airline the designer wants to create a “futuristic” look while capturing the “glamour and style that the Virgin Atlantic cabin crew are renowned for”.
The uniforms reference her passion for 1940’s French couture cutting techniques and the Savile Row tailoring heritage. So ladies, always wanted to see more of the world while getting paid and looking your best? Now is the time to quit your dayjob: the new uniforms will be implemented in 2014. Just enough time to send in your job application. [EH]

The Met Ball Mania

5 Met gala 2013 anna wintour kim kardashian nicole ritchie madonna anne hathaway copy

The Met Ball is one of the highlights of the year, stylewise, and yesterday night we could all see what that looks like in case of punk being the dresscode: The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s PUNK: Chaos to Couture show will open today and had her fashionable invitees dressed accordingly.
And oh, how that raised some digital eyebrows here and there. For instance, Twitter went berserk when Kim Kardashian showed up wearing a, a ehm… Hmm, how dó we call that abundance of flowers, belly and gloves by Ricardo Tisci? It was just neverending!
Also working up some emotions, as always, was Madonna, who came dressed in a Givenchy tartan costume jacket with no pants and pink heels and a black wig.
Also there was Mary Kate (or was it Ashley?) Olson in a grandma-esque yellow robe whilst ferociously sucking in her cheeks (as always), a pretty Anne Hathaway (vintage Valentino Couture) rocking a Mia Farrow hairdo and chief of chiefs Anna Wintour in (Chanel) flowers, who must have died a million silent deaths when she found out her and Kim had had the same idea.
The biggest surprise came from rebel child Miley Cyrus though, who looked surprisingly stylish in a long sleeve, form fitting Marc Jacobs fishnet see through gown, spikey blond short hair and fierce red lips.
Want to see for yourself? Images are all over the internet and will give you great pleasure, lots of inspiration and lots of laughter. Just don’t expect to finish that pile of work today. [EH]

The Great Gatsby

The great Gatsby Miuccia Prada costumes

Looking for some cinema chique inspiration? Your wish will soon be fulfilled with the premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby, a film that will not only offer a pack of amazing actors, but also a breathtaking set of costumes which will make you feel like you’re visiting a 1920’s ball.
The movie won’t be released until May 12th, but New Yorkers can already get their fashion fix at the Soho Prada store where a selection of costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin is on expo from 1 – 12 May. Definitely worth stopping should you be in the neighbourhood. Not so lucky? Closer to home you will find actress Carey Mulligan, who plays the roll of Daisy in the upcoming movie, gracing the cover of Vogue May in a Gatsby inspired look, and she can also be seen on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK June issue, looking lovely in a dreamy pink Prada coat with red flowers.

Sneak Peek Balenciaga

Remember how excited we were in February to find out what Alexander Wang would bring to the stage after Nicholas Ghesquiere left Balenciaga? Well, he didn’t disappoint, and now we are anxious all over to see what his first advertising campaign will look like.
He has already said that it will be a “very cinematic portrayal” of his debut collection, and it will have “lots of emotion, in contrast to the austerity bestowed in the show.”
What that will look like exactly is still a guess, but one image has already been released. In the image, which was shot by Steven Klein, we see model Kristen McMenamy peeking through a door while she clenches her first. Suspense indeed, while the focus is actually on the craft, detail and texture of the clothes. Whether McMenamy’s face will appear in other images from the campaign will have to wait until June, but it sure makes us wanting more. [EH]

Beyonce @ the beach for H&M

She has the best voice, the greatest moves, the most powerful hubby and she ain’t lackin’ in the cute department either: Beyoncé is the absolute Queen Bee of her time.  Both pop – and stylewise.
And now she is also the new face of H&M. The singer stars in the Swedish retailer’s new high summer campaign, and boy, are they beautiful. In the images and smashing video we see her relaxing on a beach sun lounger, posing in very hot swimwear and dancing on the beach. Knowing that the pictures we’re shot at the Bahamas earlier this year by none other than Dutch pride Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, makes it even more beautiful.
The campaign is accompanied by a press release where they talk about things like “fun”, “affordable” and “four elements”, but you just want to see it right?
Here you go. [EH]
