Karl goes Amsterdam

Karl Lagerfeld, the most successful kid on fashion planet, is taking his business to one of the coolest streets of Amsterdam: De Negen Straatjes.
April 25th will be the big day: 125 square meter of Karl Goodies will then open up to the no doubt super anxious public. The store will not only be highly fashionable – think ready-to-wear items, accessories and coffee table books – it will also be equipped with modern gear like iPads changing rooms with photobooths. And although it is not very likely that der Kaiser will attend the opening, it will definitely be worth a parteeeeeey for those who care: and who doesn’t?
We will keep you posted on the who, what, where and what did they wear. [EH]

Boy, oh boy – that bag!

It’s one of the most rebel cool bags of the moment, and now it has become even more sought after: model Alice Dellal is the new face of Chanel’s Boy Bag.
The French luxury brand has shared the first photographs of its new campaign – shot by Lagerfeld – showing the punk rock model striking a seductive pose on a beautiful white horse. The British model is one of the biggest names in fashion these days, and with this new ambassadorship (right up there with Tilda Swinton, Gisele Bündchen and Blake Lively) she will only become more in-demand.
And the bag itself? Oh well, let’s just hope someone on this luxury marketplace has one, doesn’t like it anymore and decides to put it up for sale. I promise you – it won’t be for sale too long. [EH]

Aaaaand… another KL production

The man is 79 years old, se-ven-ty-nine, but retirement is nowhere near for Karl Lagerfeld. The grey-haired design maverick slash photographer slash style icon slash everything has so many projects going on that it is even hard for young people to keep track, but for a designer who said “exclusivité is very démodé” (exclusivity is so last season) he is sure practicing what he preaches.
It keeps him young and vitalised too, because his latest collaboration with eco-friendly Brazilian shoebrand Melissa looks more bubbly and energetic than ever: icecream cone-shaped heels, pointed flats and rainbow-esque mary-janes are in the pipeline as Lagerfeld follows the footsteps of Vivienne Westwood, Jason Wu and Allesandra Ambrosio who collaborated with the colourful Brazilian shoe brand earlier.
If there’s a list going round for people who want to get old like that: sign me up. [EH]

Karl Lagerfeld Exposition

Flying off to St. Moritz Switzerland for a ski vacation, or already there perhaps? Make sure you don’t miss out on Karl Lagerfeld’s exposition titled “Fire Etchings”, which opened yesterday at the Galerie Gmurzysnka.
It features images of rapper Theophilus London and models Freja Beha Erichsen that have been etched onto the surface of giant glass panels with acid and fire. “Nothing is more exciting than something new – a new material, a new spirit, an new technique, a new point of view, a new expression, a new feeling,” Lagerfeld said. ‘That’s right for fashion and for photography.”
A bit too modern for your taste nevertheless? Also on display is a series of delicate 1996 portraits by Lagerfeld on handmade paper that revived a forgotten technique from early photography: colortinting black and white images via a process involving honey and rubber. That must sound soothing after a hard day’s work at the slopes. [EH]

Gay Chanel Couture Marriage

It is soooo Karl to speak out strongly and show public support to legalise same sex marriage in France. What better way to show this with the always spectaculair closing of his Chanel SS13 couture show – more spring flowers, by the way – last week in Paris with not only one, but two brides! And let’s not forget the page boy, his godchild Hudson. Adorable or what?
“I do not understand why people who live together cannot have the same security as those bourgeois who are married,” Lagerfeld said after the show. “Two women getting married, I find that natural, and having two mothers is a good thing.”
Come on France, follow your fashion leader and say I do, I do. [KB]

Ciao, Anna Piaggi…

She was an inspiration to many, many, many famous faces in the fashion industry, including Marc Jacobs, Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld. But fashion journalist Anna Piaggi, who was celebrated for her own eccentric style, is no more: the bird of paradise has died Tuesday, age 81 years old.
As the story broke, Stefano Gabbana was among the first to comment on the news, tweeting “RIP Anna Piaggi… Ciao grande Anna!!!”
Piaggi started her career as a translator for Mondadori publishing company and went on to write for Vogue Italia. She provided inspiration for Lagerfeld who published a sketchbook of her creations and once wrote “Anna invents fashion.” So true – Piaggi was known for her exuberant and flamboyant fashion sense. Blue hair, eccentric hats and walking cane might not be the accessories of choice for the most of us, but creativity is and will almost be the thing most needed in a ever changing and innovating business in fashion. She will be thoroughly missed – and hopefully succeeded. [EH]

Twitpics @ Chanel from Vic Beck

Ok, we all have our Twitter accounts and we all upload our snapshots every now and then. And yes, some of those pics of life can be quite interesting, or funny, or cute. Or delicious in case of food pics.
But let’s face it: none of them come of even close to the pics celebrities post. Like this little bunch of Twitpics Victoria Beckham posted this week, whilst being shot by Karl Lagerfeld for the cover of the upcoming issue of Elle France at the Chanel Couture salons in Paris. Vic sitting on the famous spiral staircase in Chanel’s atelier on Rue Cambon. The racks of couture. A glass of rosé chilled with icec cubes backstage. Sigh… Can’t help but wonder what it must feel like to make 4.052.936 people jealous at the same time.[EH]

Coffee with Kate

We already had Angela Buttolph’s book on Kate Moss’s style and Mario Testino’s retrospective of his photographs of The Model on our table. But now it’s time for the pinnacle of her career: a new coffee-table book chronicling Kate Moss’s 20 year modeling career is in the making.
The iconic supermodel is bringing a heavy dose of fashion photography to your morning cup o’ joe. Coming this fall, publisher Rizzoli will release a 368-page whopper of a book titled Kate, The Kate Moss Book. Edited by Interview Magazine Editorial Director Fabien Baron and with contributions from Jefferson Hack (the father of Moss’s daughter Lila Grace), it will contain a retrospective of her career. It starts with some of Moss’s first modeling shots ever, and we all know how it went from there. From Hedi Slimane to Juergen Teller and from Terry Richardson to Karl Lagerfeld: prepare for a doubledose of fashioncaffeine this fall. [EH]

CHANEL FW12 campaign

The leader of the pack did it again: Karl Lagerfeld shot yet another fashion forward Chanel campaign. We’re all set for Fall’s Fashion with these sturdy looks by famous faces. ‘Our’ Saskia de Brauw is back, and is joined by fellow models Stella Tennant, Kati Nescher and Cora Emmanuel. All dressed up in  tweeds and layers in dark autumny colours. Love the black and blues mix. And they have their hair sheared. Dunno about that yet. [KB]
