The Met Ball Mania

5 Met gala 2013 anna wintour kim kardashian nicole ritchie madonna anne hathaway copy

The Met Ball is one of the highlights of the year, stylewise, and yesterday night we could all see what that looks like in case of punk being the dresscode: The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s PUNK: Chaos to Couture show will open today and had her fashionable invitees dressed accordingly.
And oh, how that raised some digital eyebrows here and there. For instance, Twitter went berserk when Kim Kardashian showed up wearing a, a ehm… Hmm, how dó we call that abundance of flowers, belly and gloves by Ricardo Tisci? It was just neverending!
Also working up some emotions, as always, was Madonna, who came dressed in a Givenchy tartan costume jacket with no pants and pink heels and a black wig.
Also there was Mary Kate (or was it Ashley?) Olson in a grandma-esque yellow robe whilst ferociously sucking in her cheeks (as always), a pretty Anne Hathaway (vintage Valentino Couture) rocking a Mia Farrow hairdo and chief of chiefs Anna Wintour in (Chanel) flowers, who must have died a million silent deaths when she found out her and Kim had had the same idea.
The biggest surprise came from rebel child Miley Cyrus though, who looked surprisingly stylish in a long sleeve, form fitting Marc Jacobs fishnet see through gown, spikey blond short hair and fierce red lips.
Want to see for yourself? Images are all over the internet and will give you great pleasure, lots of inspiration and lots of laughter. Just don’t expect to finish that pile of work today. [EH]

Truth or Dare?

O, oh, she is doing it again: by posing nude for the ad campaign for her second fragrance Truth or Dare NAKED, Madonna is yet again causing a commotion. Exactly 20 years after the release of her coffeetable book SEX, photographed by Steven Meisel.
Her new fragrance is named after her 1991 documentary, and reminds us of what she has successfully been doing over the years: turning heads and raising eyebrows. To be honest, Madonna looks quite buffed in the picture, thanks to her fitness trainer Nicole Winhoffer who recently revealed how she helps Madonna stay in shape – no walk in the park, we can tell you that.
But aside from the fact whether she looks good, or the moral dilemma whether posing nude is a wise thing to do for 54 year old woman, the ad raises a capital question: is airbrush starting to reach parts of her body that long gruelling work outs won’t fix anymore? Hmm. [EH]

Food For Thought

I don’t care anymore if people dress like me,

now I want them to think like me.

Art, People

Cindy! Naomi! Stephanie! Christy! Tatjana!

The work of the late photographer Herb Ritts is on expo in Los Angeles. This means American glamour, super stardom and bomb shells models all over the place. And yet, they all have this great intimacy to them, a sense that makes you feel that each photo shoot was a party that we missed, a time well-spent among close friends. Or, as Madonna once put it: “It goes a little something like this. He talks you into going to the beach. Then, he talks you into taking off your clothes. He talks you into dancing and frolicking in the sand like an idiot. He talks you into getting into the freezing cold ocean, and before you know it, you have a sunburn and you are freezing your ass off and you’re sure you’ve just made a hugh ass out of yourself.” Well, that’s her way of putting it, we like to call it art.
Either way, the exhibition called 'L.A. Style' opened last week at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. No, that is not exactly around the corner for us, but should you be in the neighbourhood… Don’t miss out on familiar faces such as Cindy Crawford and then-hubby Richard Gere, Michael and Janet Jackson and HR's most iconic picture ever, that of a group of young nude models huddling together. Those were the days.

Madonna Superbowl

A lot has already been said about Madonna’s spectacular half time show at the Superbowl, but we can’t resist to throw in a little point of view of ourselves. After all, it was Madge who was our biggest inspiration ever when we, Designer-Vintage gals, grew up in the seventies and eighties. She was the epitome of freedom, the essence of style and the only woman we would have forgiven should she she have snatched our boyfriend. With this in mind we watched the show and yes, we liked quite a few things about the performance.
The Great Roman Empire theme and matching
Givenchy outfit, for example, and British singer M.I.A. stepping in, and the million burning candles saying world peace at the end. And we definitely loved the fact that she opened with the ultimate gay anthem, her hitsingle Vogue, during an event that is completely testosteron driven. But. There is a but. Because why did it feel so… empty? Was it because we were left with the feeling that we had been looking at a woman who was trying to pull a Beyoncé? A woman whose face was far from alive, apart from the permament grin on it? And did we really want to see a fifty-something woman sitting on the neck of a 20 year old jock waving golden pompons at the crowd? It felt a bit ridiculous. Or as CNN talk show host Piers Morgan said: “It was like watching your mad drunken aunt at Christmas, wasn’t it?” Has Madonna become a caracticture of herself?

We Love

Madonna in Best Dress @ Met Gala 2011

Now this is style and classic glamour, Madonna is wearing a pale blue satin silk dress by her best friend Stella McCartney. Embroided with a wave of silver stars moving from front all the way to the end of her train. We love her vintage hairdo and make-up, red lips and soft curls. And the diamonds. Amai. Amai.
