Many well-known fashion brands have joined the 'Fashion Pact' to protect the earth and fight climate change. The fashion industry is one of the largest industries in the world and it was about time for them to take a leading role in the fight for a more sustainable future.
François-Henri Pinault, CEO of Kering, is an important name in the road to this agreement. Encouraged by Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron, he took the initiative for this environmental agreement. The Fashion Pact was extensively introduced and discussed to the world leaders at the G7 summit in France.
Members of the 'Fashion Pact' stand for three main objectives:
All the brands that have signed this agreement (more than 30% of the fashion industry!) have promised to stick to these three objectives. The agreement is not binding, but the companies will publish an annual report on their progress once every few years. Brands like Alexander McQueen, Armani, Prada, but also giants like Nike, Zara and Adidas have already signed the agreement. Two other major brands Dior and Louis Vuitton on the other hand, didn't sign the agreement (yet).
We are happy to see that many brands are joining the 'Fashion Pact' and contribute to making the world a more sustainable place. We still have a long way to go but signing this agreement is already a step in the good direction. Hopefully many more brands will follow and we can fight this together!
