As authentic as it gets

Is it possible to be an icon and a fresh face at the same time?
Well, you sure need a Big, Big Name to accomplish this. Fifty-one years after her death, Marilyn Monroe has been named the new face of Chanel’s iconic fragrance, No. 5.
The American screen princess and classic beauty icon will feature in a new print and tv campaign, which includes black and white images showing Marilyn posing with a bottle of a Chanel No. 5.
Why? Because the company was lucky enough to discover an audio recording of a 53 years old interview with then Marie Claire’s editor-in-chief Georges Belmont, where she speaks about the perfume. “You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of a pyjama? A nightgown? So I said: ‘Chanel No. 5.’ Because it’s the thruth,” said Monroe in the 1960 recording.
The quote remains one of her most memorable ones, and with authenticity being the key word in every company’s marketing strategy nowadays, this is what they call gefundenes fressen. And the public? We are happy to get a little of that Marilyn mystic. [EH]
