Maybe one of the most famous apartments in all of Paris is located at 31, Rue Cambon. While this is address still is the historical Chanel HQ, the upper floor used to be Mademoiselle Chanel’s private apartment. Even though lots of things have changed ever since, the interior is still completely the same.
What to expect? Loads of chandeliers, black lacquered furniture, sofas and the famous Camelia fleur of course. In a nutshell: the epitome of eclectic where East meets West.
Already curious what’s upstairs after that famous glass spiral staircase? If you haven’t planned a trip to Paris lately, you can also get a glimpse of Coco’s world in London. At the Saatchi Galleries, you can visit the “Second Floor” exhibition about the famous apartment. The series of 45 photographs showcase the private rooms of Mademoiselle Chanel at numéro 31, Rue Cambon in Paris.
“Shooting at Coco Chanel’s apartment was an unexpectedly absorbing experience,” says photographer Sam Taylor-Johnson. “The essence of Chanel is firmly rooted there in all of her possessions and I truly believe that her spirit and soul still inhabit the second floor.”
“Second Floor” will be up at the Saatchi Galleries in London from 12 – 22 September.
