Gianvito Rossi

10 August 2016

Many try to make their name in fashion and build their empire for decades, before reaching a certain amount of success. Especially in the world of designer shoes it can be difficult to make a name, next to big players like Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin. But if you are a shoe making talent, with Italian roots and can produce a product that is loved by many woman, it can go very quick. Gianvito Rossi is the name behind one of the biggest success stories in shoe history. Within 10 years he went from newcomer to shoe guru.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
Shoemaking is a skill that transcends from generation on to generation within the Rossi family, as Sergio Rossi inherited his shoe making skills, tools and craftsmanship from his father. Sergio Rossi is best know for his collaboration with Gianni Versace, but he has worked with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry and continues to do so today. His son Gianvito seems to be equally talented when its comes to designing shoes that make women go crazy.

Following the Rossi family footsteps
Gianvito was practically raised among shoes and his fathers factory was his playground. At a young age shoes we're just toys to him and he didn't realise that shoes would become his future. Joining his father in the Rossi company was a natural choice. After working next to his father for 20 years, he has mastered the art of shoe making, just like his father once learned from his grandfather. When his father left sold Sergio Rossi to the Gucci Group, Gianvito found himself out of the shoebusiness for the first time. In that moment he actually realised how much shoes meant to him and how it had become such a big part of his life. He quickly made the decision to start his own business. Gianvito launched his own collection in September of 2006. A wise move to make, since the brand has been on the rise ever since. The ingredients for his shoes? Pure design, Italian craftsmanship, elegance and not as over the top as the usual footwear from Italian shoe designers.

Gianvito Rossi: femininity, modernity and elegance
What truly distinguishes Gianvito in a world full of designer shoes, is that he doesn't consider his shoes as a piece of art. He thinks the true masterpiece is the woman hersel. He wants every pair of Gianvito Rossi's to accentuate a woman's body in a balance of proportion and aesthetic lines. His shoes are designed to lengthen woman's legs and minimise foot pain, with a steady 11 cm heel. The words he would use to describe his brand are femininity, modernity and elegance.

Absolute eye candy
But his designs go much further than shap and comfort: the heels are absolute eye candy. Gianvito Rossi uses the finest materials, with beautifully sculpted surfaces, and combinations of different textures. For example, fur and velvet are used, as well as beautiful leathers. Different models are embellished with perfect details, such as a cute bow, rhinestones or a touch of lace.

Gianvito's signature styles
Rossi has designed so many shoes over the past ten years, but some styles keep coming back. For example the d'Orsay shoe, the pump with the pointy nose and open sides. Another popular style that you might have seen before, are the plexi shoes, with the transparent sides. An almost iconic model is the vamp, an ankle boot with a peep toe. Very daring yet elegant, the name suits the shoe perfectly. The signature style of the brand is the Gianvito, the perfect pump, available in different heel heights and materials.
