Hermès Constance bag

25 January 2016

After our Masterclass on the Birkin and the Kelly, it is about time to shed some light on the history of the gorgeous Hermès Constance bag. We travel back in time to 1969, when the French fashion house launched a brand new icon.

The first Hermès Constance bag
The very first Hermès Constance was designed in 1969. The bag soon become one of the favorite accessories of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (America's most stylish First Lady). It didn't take long before Hollywood and the rest of the world followed her lead.

Fun fact about the Constance
Did you know that the bag is named after the fifth child of in-house designer Catherine Chaillet? The story goes that this icon was launched on the same day that Catherine gave birth to her daughter Constance. Little Constance grew up to be a well-known French journalist and writer. We can only assume that she loves having her 'own' Hermès namesake bag.
