Sustainability is hot, even in the fashion industry. Nowadays, we all know how much pollution the fashion industry is causing, and it’s time to change this. One of the easiest (and most fun) things you can do to help is to choose for second-hand or vintage items. This will make your closet more sustainable in no time. Not only good for the planet, but also great for your wallet!

There are enough places, offline as well as online, where you can find the best vintage treasures. Other than Designer-Vintage for all your vintage designer items, there are plenty of platforms where you can find beautiful vintage items. Finding the right item can be quite a hunt, that’s why we wrote down the most important tips and tools for you, so your closet can be full with vintage treasures.

Tip 1: Know how to search

Maybe the most important thing to start with: what do you type in your search bar in Google? Are you looking for a specific item? Then start with simple keywords, like brand, product name or colour. Less is more, so start with a simple and short search. Don’t give up too quick and be creative with your keywords, the item you’re looking for could pop up on page 3 of your Google search. Also, don't miss out on special event sales, like our Instagram Story Sale this Thursday and Friday, whereby we will sell an exclusive selection of vintage designer items via our Instagram Stories. Turn on your notifications to a search or new post of your favourite vintage sites, apps or Instagram pages, so you don't miss anything!

Tip 2: Know where to look

For a more broader search, start on websites specialised in second-hand or vintage, instead of looking for a specific item. The same rules apply here: don’t give up too quick and look further than the first page of Google’s results. There are plenty of webshops, boutiques and Instagram pages offering vintage. Especially Instagram is gaining a lot of vintage shops. Vintage lovers are starting their own Instagram page selling their finds. Interested in one of their items? Just send them a message! And for your designer items, you are obviously already on the right website ;)

Tip 3: Don’t be afraid to ask questions

Know what you’re buying! And not unimportant: don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’re better off asking too much photo’s than too little. Is there no picture of the backside of the bag in the advertisement? Ask for it! Sellers sometimes try to make items look better than they actually are, so pay attention.

 Tip 4: Do your research

Found a nice piece? Do a quick google search looking for the same item, to check if the price you’re paying is fair. Besides researching the item, it’s also very important to research the seller. On a platform, it’s super easy to see if someone is trustworthy. Check the seller his reviews and recent sold items. Are you in doubt? You can always contact the platform and see if they can check it out. We always fact check every seller and you’re always welcome to send us a message so we can help you out.

Good luck with creating your sustainable closet!
