Freddy Mercuries’ hymn on Barcelona comes close. Pickpockets come too close! Like no other Iberian city, Barcelona associates with bull fights and moustached testosteron bombs. Fully dressed up after landing on Barcelona Airport I found myself surrounded by awesome hotels located on the main shopping area’s, with all the great designers.
We stayed at the 5-star Omm hotel at thé Paseo de Gracia. It was all about (and I quote) innovation, design, modernity, cuisine, entertainment, comfort and luxury. All true. Think hipsters, amazing (hangover)- breakfast, and a terrace with pool overlooking Gaudi’s La Pedrera.
Knowing that up-and-coming neighborhoods were not that close by, we headed towards adventure with cool rented bikes and cruised to the Sant Antoni area. Since it was Saturday there was a very vibrant atmosphere. We had lunch at this amazing tapas meets modern cuisine (and interior) restaurant called Lando, but a lot of surrounding bars and places looked really worthwhile checking out.
For some good old cocktail and dancing fun we made sure we took a long siesta, since clubs like Opium and the rooftop of the W hotel don’t get busy before 1AM. But when they do its full on. 'Vamos a festejar!'
